JB French Houses: Privacy Policy

Who we are
This policy explains how JB French Houses uses the personal details you give us through this website, and the choices you have.
JB French Houses Limited is the company responsible for your personal data (the “data controller”). We are registered in England and Wales, company number 04403176.
- Registered office: 38 St Vincent Road, Southsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire, PO5 2QR

If you have any question about this policy or your data, please get in touch using the details above.
What we collect and why
We only collect what you choose to give us through our two website forms, or when you email or phone us.
When you register your search
- Your name, email address and phone number
- What you are looking for: budget, bedrooms, condition, land size, number of gîtes, water features and the regions you are interested in
We use this to email you our weekly update of properties that match what you are looking for. We only do this because you ticked the box to agree to it, and you can withdraw that agreement at any time. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or you can simply ask us.
When you send an enquiry
- Your name, email address and phone number
- Your message, and the property reference if you mention one
We use this to answer your question and, if you wish, to help you arrange viewings and buy a property. We do this because it is in our legitimate interest to respond to people who contact us, and because it is a step you have asked us to take before a possible purchase.
What we don’t do
We never sell your details, and we don’t use them for anything other than the reasons above.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted companies to run the website and our email. They only handle your details on our instructions:
| Company | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| 2020media (UK) | Hosts this website |
| Twilio SendGrid | Sends our weekly property emails and website messages, and stores our mailing list |
| Microsoft 365 | Our office email, where your enquiries arrive |
If you ask us to arrange a viewing or go ahead with a purchase, we will share the details needed with the seller or their agent, and with the notaire handling the sale. We will only do this when you ask us to.
We may also share information if the law requires us to.
Sending data outside the UK
SendGrid and Microsoft may store or process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
- Search registrations: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you. After that we keep only your email address on a “do not contact” list, so we never email you by mistake.
- Enquiries: for up to two years after we last heard from you, unless you become a buyer, in which case we keep what we need for as long as the law requires.
Cookies and analytics
This website does not use advertising or analytics cookies, so there is nothing to accept or decline. The only cookies it sets are for our own staff when they log in to manage the site.
We use Google Search Console to see how our website appears in Google search results. It reports overall figures, such as which searches lead people to us. It does not place cookies on your device or tell us who you are.
Our weekly property emails may record whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. This helps us send listings people are interested in. You can stop this by not loading images in your email, or by unsubscribing.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete your details
- stop or limit how we use them, or object to us using them
- give you your data in a format you can take elsewhere
- stop sending you our weekly emails (this withdraws your consent, and you can also use the unsubscribe link)
Just email or call us using the details at the top of this page. We will reply within one month, and there is no charge.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator: ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page.
